After parting ways with the UFC following an eight-fight losing streak, Tony Ferguson has found a new home in Global Fight League (GFL). The former interim lightweight champion is set to return to MMA action, with his first fight booked against none other than Dillon Danis.

This highly anticipated matchup will mark Ferguson’s first non-UFC MMA bout since 2010 and Danis’s return to the cage after nearly six years away from the sport.

Ferguson’s Fresh Start in GFL

Despite widespread calls for retirement, Tony Ferguson isn’t done with fighting just yet. The 41-year-old left his gloves in the Octagon after his last loss to Michael Chiesa at UFC Saudi Arabia, signaling a possible farewell. However, Ferguson quickly hinted at a return on New Year’s Day, and now, GFL has confirmed his comeback fight.

While fans speculated about potential opponents, Dillon Danis emerged as the chosen one—a fighter better known for his grappling skills, social media antics, and past ties to Conor McGregor. Danis, who boasts a 2-0 MMA record, last fought in Bellator back in 2019. Since then, he has dabbled in boxing, including a controversial loss to Logan Paul in 2023.

A Clash of Experience vs. Hype

On paper, Ferguson holds a massive advantage in experience. With 36 professional MMA fights, he has fought and beaten some of the best in the sport, including Donald Cerrone, Rafael dos Anjos, and Kevin Lee. Danis, on the other hand, has only two MMA fights, both of which came before the pandemic.

Despite his jiu-jitsu credentials, Danis’s lack of high-level MMA competition raises questions about how he will fare against a veteran like Ferguson. However, with both fighters looking to prove themselves on a new stage, the matchup promises fireworks.

As of now, the date and location for Ferguson vs. Danis remain unannounced, but with GFL gaining traction, this bout could be a major attraction for the promotion. Whether Ferguson can reclaim his winning ways or Danis can silence his critics remains to be seen, but one thing is certain—fans will be watching.
