At UFC 313, held on March 8, 2025, at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Magomed Ankalaev secured the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship by defeating Alex Pereira via unanimous decision. The judges scored the fight 49-46, 48-47, and 48-47 in favor of Ankalaev. The highly technical matchup saw Pereira successfully defend all 12 of Ankalaev’s takedown attempts, but the Russian’s striking and control appeared to sway the judges in his favor.

Despite the result, Pereira has made it clear that he wants an immediate rematch to reclaim his title.

Following the fight, Pereira took to social media, stating that while the loss was disappointing, he is not making excuses and will make adjustments for a potential rematch. His coaches, Plinio Cruz and former UFC champion Glover Teixeira, have voiced their disagreement with the judges’ scorecards. They believe Pereira won the first, third, and fifth rounds, arguing that he deserved to retain the belt.

Magomed Ankalaev’s Reaction to Victory

The newly crowned champion, Ankalaev, acknowledged Pereira’s toughness but made it clear that he is willing to run it back. He stated, “I’m ready for Round 6, but this time it will not go the full distance.”

Ankalaev remains confident that he can secure a more decisive win in a rematch.

Will UFC Book a Rematch Between Pereira and Ankalaev?

UFC CEO Dana White has hinted that a rematch between Alex Pereira and Magomed Ankalaev is a strong possibility. Given the competitive nature of their UFC 313 fight and the controversy surrounding the decision, a second bout between them would generate massive interest in the light heavyweight division.

Pereira’s camp is already working on a new strategy, promising a more aggressive and prepared version of the Brazilian striker. His team has dubbed the rematch plan “Poatan 2.0,” aiming to make significant improvements ahead of a second showdown with Ankalaev.
