A Calm Storm from Chechnya

Born on September 21, 2005, Ansar Khamzaev is quietly building a name for himself in the world of MMA. Still just 19 years old, the Chechen featherweight currently trains at Kill Cliff FC in Florida, a gym known for producing elite-level fighters.

Ansar’s approach to fighting is as calm as it is dangerous. He doesn’t shout, he doesn’t show off, and he doesn’t try to force things. Instead, he walks into the cage, handles business, and walks out with another win. So far, he’s done exactly that in all three of his professional fights.

Undefeated and Efficient

With a perfect 3–0 pro record, every one of Ansar’s wins has come by submission. Two of his victories were rear-naked chokes, and the third was a kimura finish. These weren’t wild scrambles or last-minute catches. They were controlled, clean, and technical.

What stands out is how efficient he is. Ansar doesn’t waste time or energy. He doesn’t take unnecessary damage. Once he closes the distance and brings the fight to the ground, things usually start going his way quickly.

That kind of control is rare in a young fighter, and it’s even more impressive when you remember that his pro career has only just begun.

Learning in the Fire

Training at Kill Cliff FC means Ansar is constantly around high-level competition. The gym is filled with experienced fighters, and that kind of environment pushes you to either rise or get left behind.

From what we’ve seen so far, Ansar is clearly rising. His grappling continues to look sharp, his composure remains steady, and his striking, while not yet his main weapon, has been improving steadily.

You can tell he takes his growth seriously. He fights like someone who trains with purpose, not just intensity. Everything he does has intention behind it, and that matters in the long run.

Ansar Khamzaev has been sharpening his skills under the tutelage of UFC Gilbert Burns, benefiting from Burns’s high-level expertise and hallmarks of elite Brazilian jiu-jitsu guidance (as noted in recent social posts showing “With Gilbert Burns in his corner…”).

Notably, at recent events, both Gilbert and his brother Herbert Burns have been spotted offering visible support, celebrating alongside Khamzaev and demonstrating a unified backing that underscores the confidence in his rising MMA trajectory.

Next Fight: August 15 at LFA 214

Ansar’s next challenge is set for August 15, 2025, at LFA 214, where he’ll face off against Andy Waters, a 4–1 fighter with solid experience. The event will take place at the Sanford Pentagon in South Dakota.

This fight is expected to test Ansar in new ways. Waters is tough and well-rounded, and he’s shown he can handle pressure. For Ansar, this is a chance to prove he’s ready to move up the ladder and take on stronger competition.

A win here, especially another finish, would mark a big step forward in his journey. It could open doors and speed up the path to the bigger stages of MMA.

A Fighter with Room to Grow

What makes Ansar exciting isn’t just what he’s done, but what still lies ahead. He’s already showing high-level grappling, patience in the cage, and a clear sense of how to win. Yet, he’s also young enough that there’s still plenty of time to add more layers to his game.

His striking, his physical strength, and his fight IQ, all of it will only get better with more experience. That’s why watching him now is so interesting. You’re not just seeing a young talent. You’re seeing the early stages of someone who might go very far.

Staying Focused on the Long Road

In a sport where hype often takes over, Ansar stands out by staying quiet and putting in the work. He doesn’t seem interested in shortcuts or spotlight. He just keeps showing up and getting better.

That kind of mindset, paired with real skill and a strong team behind him, usually leads to something worth watching. If he keeps improving the way he has been, it won’t be long before people start seeing his name much more often.
