Baysangur Susurkaev will fight for the first time in the UFC this Saturday at UFC 319. He got the fight just four days after winning a contract on Dana White’s Contender Series. The undefeated prospect will fight CFFC welterweight champion Eric Nolan in a middleweight fight at the United Center in Chicago that was set up at the last minute.
The fight is now official, which makes the show even more interesting. The main event is Khamzat Chimaev vs. Dricus du Plessis for the UFC middleweight title.
Baysangur Susurkaev: From Viral Knockout to UFC 319
Earlier this week, Susurkaev made headlines with a shocking first-round knockout on the Contender Series. A brutal kick to the body stopped the fight in just over a minute, and the Chechen welterweight got a UFC deal right away.
He then held up four fingers on camera to show that he intended to fight again in four days. The UFC came through.
Susurkaev, who has been Khamzat Chimaev’s training partner for a long time, will make his first appearance in a promotion on the same night that Chimaev fights for gold.
Eric Nolan Steps In
Eric Nolan steps in across from Susurkaev. He also takes the fight on short notice. Nolan is also a CFFC welterweight champion and has a 8–3 record going into his first UFC fight. He has won four fights in a row, the most recent of which was a stoppage win that gave him the CFFC crown.
The fight will be at 185 pounds, and both competitors will be making their Octagon debuts on an immediate time frame.
Chimaev and Susurkaev Share the Spotlight
Susurkaev trained alongside Chimaev throughout the UFC 319 camp. During fight week, Chimaev spoke highly of his teammate’s work ethic and fighting ability, predicting a bright future in the promotion.
Chimaev declared:
He has a great future if he keeps training the same way […] He did the full camp with me, and now we fight on the same card. It’s going to be a big night.
This marks the first time Chimaev and one of his teammates will compete on the same UFC event.
A Historic Turnaround
The booking is one of the quickest shifts from Contender Series to UFC debut in the history of modern mixed martial arts. On Tuesday, Susurkaev fought and won. He got his contract and will fight again on Saturday.
He comes into the UFC with a perfect record, a high finish rate, and a lot of momentum from a debut performance that got a lot of attention.
The main event of UFC 319 on Saturday, August 16, in Chicago is Dricus du Plessis vs. Khamzat Chimaev for the UFC middleweight title and on the preliminary card is Susurkaev vs. Nolan.
