Joe Rogan has addressed his name appearing in the latest batch of Jeffrey Epstein files, making it clear that any connection stems from refusing a meeting request nearly a decade ago.

Speaking on a recent episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, Rogan responded directly to the documents released by the U.S. Department of Justice in January. According to the files, Epstein had asked physicist Lawrence Krauss in 2017 whether he could introduce him to Rogan. Krauss, who had previously appeared on Rogan’s podcast, agreed to try. No meeting ever took place. Rogan said during a conversation with actress Cheryl Hines.

I’m in the files for not going

Rogan Explains Why He Refused

Rogan did not hesitate when recounting the moment he learned about the request. He said that once he looked into Epstein’s background, there was no possibility of agreeing to a meeting.

Jeffrey Epstein was trying to meet with me, Rogan said. And I was like, what? No thanks. It’s not even a possibility that I would’ve ever went, especially after I Googled him.

He added that the idea itself caught him off guard.

This was like 2017. One of my guests was trying to get me to meet him. I was like, are you high? What are you talking about?

The files indicate that Epstein reached out through Krauss in September 2017 after Krauss had appeared on Rogan’s show. In a follow up note, Krauss reportedly described Rogan as “more timid” than expected when no response came. There is no evidence in the documents that Rogan communicated directly with Epstein.

Context Behind the Mention

The recent document release has led to renewed scrutiny of various public figures named in Epstein’s records. However, being mentioned does not automatically imply wrongdoing.

In Rogan’s case, the documents reference Epstein’s attempt to secure an introduction and interest in UFC events. No correspondence, travel records, or meeting confirmations between the two have surfaced.

During the podcast, Rogan reflected more broadly on why some people might have accepted such an invitation.

If I was a guy who was sucking up to the rich and powerful, if I was really interested in hanging out with rich and powerful people, he said. Some people get intoxicated by being in a circle of rich and powerful people. They just want to be around them.

Rogan suggested that Epstein built influence by surrounding himself with respected figures, which may have made certain invitations appear legitimate on the surface.

The Reach of The Joe Rogan Experience

The timing of Rogan’s comments is notable. In 2025, The Joe Rogan Experience remained Spotify’s top global podcast for the sixth consecutive year. The show continues to attract high profile guests from politics, entertainment, science, and sports.

Rogan endorsed Donald Trump during the 2024 presidential election, though he has since voiced criticism of certain immigration enforcement policies. His political commentary, combined with the scale of his platform, keeps him at the center of national conversations.

That visibility also means that even indirect mentions in high profile investigations can generate headlines.
