The influence of Khabib Nurmagomedov on modern mixed martial arts continues to grow, and the UFC is once again turning to Dagestan for elite talent.

The promotion has officially signed former ACA middleweight champion Magomedrasul Gasanov, who is expected to make his debut at UFC Abu Dhabi on July 25. The 31 year old enters the organization carrying one of the most impressive records outside the UFC, and his arrival adds another respected name from Khabib’s renowned training circle.

According to reports from Vestnik MMA, Gasanov will face fellow former ACA champion Abubakar Vagaev in a middleweight clash at the Etihad Arena. The matchup has already attracted attention among hardcore MMA followers due to the credentials both men bring into the Octagon.

Another major signing from Khabib’s camp

For years, fighters connected to Khabib Nurmagomedov and the famed Eagle MMA system have dominated the sport across several promotions. Khabib retired in 2020 with an undefeated professional record and is still regarded by many as one of the greatest lightweight fighters in UFC history.

Since then, Islam Makhachev has carried the torch at the highest level, while names such as Usman Nurmagomedov and Gadzhi Rabadanov have found success outside the UFC.

Now Gasanov becomes the latest athlete from that ecosystem to earn a contract with the world’s biggest MMA promotion.

Khabib himself acknowledged the move on social media after the news became public.

Walked long, worked hard, plowed in silence. Well deserved,

The message reflected the respect Gasanov has earned over years of consistent performances in ACA, one of Europe’s toughest MMA organizations.

Gasanov arrives with a remarkable winning streak

Gasanov enters the UFC with a 23 and 2 professional record and has not suffered a defeat in more than a decade.

After losing consecutive fights early in his career in 2015, the Russian middleweight rebuilt himself into one of the most dominant champions outside the UFC. He went on to win 16 straight fights and captured the ACA middleweight title in 2021 after defeating Nikola Dipchikov.

What followed was an impressive title reign that included seven successful defenses. His most recent victory came against former UFC fighter Albert Tumenov earlier this year at ACA 200.

Gasanov’s style fits perfectly with the reputation Dagestani fighters have built over the years. He combines relentless pressure, grappling control, and disciplined striking with excellent conditioning over five rounds.

His UFC arrival also stands out because the promotion has traditionally signed more fighters from Khabib’s circle at lightweight and welterweight. Gasanov brings that same system into the middleweight division, where fresh contenders are always valuable.

Abubakar Vagaev presents a dangerous first test

The UFC did not give Gasanov an easy introduction.

Vagaev, a former two time ACA welterweight champion, has built an impressive résumé of his own and enters the bout with a 24 and 4 record. The 33 year old recently reclaimed the ACA title with a unanimous decision win over Albert Tumenov and is currently riding a three fight winning streak.

His recent run also includes a victory over former UFC veteran Michel Prazeres, proving he can compete against experienced opposition.

Vagaev is expected to move up to middleweight for the UFC debut matchup against Gasanov, creating an intriguing clash between two accomplished champions from the same regional circuit.

The decision to sign both men and immediately book them against each other came as a surprise to many observers. Usually, fighters transitioning from another promotion receive a slower introduction. Instead, the UFC appears confident that both athletes are ready for high level competition immediately.

UFC Abu Dhabi card continues to improve

The UFC’s annual return to Abu Dhabi is shaping up to be one of the strongest Fight Night cards of the summer.

The event will be headlined by Magomed Ankalaev against Khalil Rountree Jr. in a pivotal light heavyweight matchup. Ankalaev will compete for the first time since losing the title to Alex Pereira.

Elsewhere on the card, lightweight contenders Ismael Bonfim and Axel Sola are scheduled to meet in what many expect to be an action packed contest.

The addition of Gasanov versus Vagaev gives the event even more depth and further strengthens the UFC’s growing relationship with fighters from Dagestan and the Caucasus region.

Khabib’s influence continues to shape the UFC

Even years after retirement, Khabib Nurmagomedov’s impact on MMA remains impossible to ignore. His coaching influence and talent development system continue to produce elite competitors capable of succeeding at the highest level.

Gasanov now has the opportunity to prove that success inside the Octagon can extend beyond the lightweight division. With his undefeated streak stretching over ten years and a championship pedigree already established, expectations around his UFC debut will be significant.

If he performs the way many expect, the UFC middleweight division may soon have another serious contender emerging from Khabib’s camp.
