The verbal battle between Justin Gaethje and Ilia Topuria has reached a new level less than two weeks before their lightweight title unification bout at UFC Freedom 250.

Set to headline the historic event at the White House on June 14, the two fighters have spent recent weeks exchanging barbs through interviews and social media. While Topuria has confidently predicted a dominant victory, Gaethje has now responded with some of his strongest comments yet.

The rivalry has quickly become one of the most talked about storylines surrounding UFC Freedom 250, a card that is expected to be one of the biggest events in promotion history.

Gaethje Unloads on Topuria’s Persona

Topuria’s confidence has become a defining part of his rise to the top of the sport. Since capturing UFC gold, the undefeated champion has regularly spoken about his belief that no fighter can challenge him.

Gaethje, however, appears unimpressed.

All that guy is, is a gimmick, Gaethje told Fox Sports Australia.

“He calls himself the king. He thinks he’s a God. What an annoying little bastard. I couldn’t imagine being in a room with him for 30 minutes listening to him talk about himself.”

The interim lightweight champion then took things a step further by referencing Topuria’s recent divorce.

And I can say this. I would leave him, Gaethje added. That’s all I’m saying. I would leave him. No way I would put up with his shit.

The comments represent some of the most personal remarks exchanged between the two fighters since the matchup was announced.

Ilia Topuria Continues to Predict an Early Finish

While Gaethje has focused on criticizing Topuria’s personality, the lightweight champion remains focused on the outcome of the fight itself.

Topuria recently spoke with Paramount+ and once again expressed complete confidence in his ability to finish the veteran contender.

I don’t think it goes the full five rounds, Topuria said.

“I’m prepared. I have the stamina to go, not for five rounds, but for five days. I can be in there. I know how it feels when you’re tired, when you can’t do more, and you never give up. So, I’m ready.”

The champion then delivered his prediction for fight night.

“But I have the complete faith that I’m going to finish him in the first round. I just want to make it look beautiful.

The prediction is consistent with Topuria’s recent behavior. The Georgian Spanish star has repeatedly spoken as though victory is inevitable and has even updated his social media biography to reflect an undefeated 18 and 0 record before stepping into the cage against Gaethje.

Gaethje Sees Similarities to Paddy Pimblett

Gaethje believes he has seen this type of confidence before.

Earlier this year, he defeated Paddy Pimblett to capture the interim lightweight title, and he suggested that Topuria’s attitude reminds him of the British fighter.

Yeah, look, I was young and dumb once too, Gaethje said.

“And up until this point, it’s served him well. People see the way he talks, and they believe it. Because he believes it. Which is amazing, really.”

But it was similar with Paddy Pimblett. He was so full of himself. And it can be so detrimental to approach life that way. Thinking you’re better than everybody else.

Gaethje’s comments suggest he believes Topuria’s confidence could eventually become a weakness rather than a strength.

Massive Stakes at UFC Freedom 250

Beyond the personal tension, the fight carries enormous significance for both athletes.

Ilia Topuria enters the contest as the undisputed lightweight champion and one of the sport’s fastest rising stars. Since moving up from featherweight, he has continued his unbeaten run while establishing himself as one of the UFC’s most dangerous finishers.

Gaethje, meanwhile, remains one of the most respected veterans on the roster. Known for his aggressive style and willingness to engage in firefights, he has repeatedly delivered memorable performances throughout his career.

Oddsmakers currently view Topuria as a sizeable favorite heading into the bout, but Gaethje has built a career on proving doubters wrong.

The unique setting only adds to the occasion. The fight is scheduled to take place at the White House as part of UFC Freedom 250, an event expected to attract worldwide attention.

Countdown to Fight Night

As fight night approaches, the rivalry between Topuria and Gaethje appears to be growing more intense with each passing day.

Ilia Topuria remains convinced that he will score another highlight reel knockout and continue his unbeaten run. Gaethje believes the champion’s confidence has crossed into arrogance and is eager to prove him wrong.

On June 14, the talking will finally stop.

One fighter will leave the White House with the undisputed lightweight championship. The other will be forced to live with the outcome of one of the most heated rivalries in the sport.
