Henry Cejudo’s return to the octagon took a devastating turn after suffering a serious eye injury during his UFC Fight Night clash against Song Yadong in Seattle. The fight was stopped at the start of the fourth round after Cejudo complained of vision issues, leading to a technical decision win for Yadong.

Moments after the fight, Cejudo revealed the full extent of his injury, detailing diplopia (double vision), soft tissue damage, and a corneal abrasion. The former two-division champion was rushed to the hospital for further evaluation, leaving his UFC future uncertain.

Henry Cejudo Speaks Out: “I Was Seeing Double”

Taking to social media, Cejudo gave fans an update on his condition and explained why he couldn’t continue:

I got poked in the eye with two damn fingers. Usually, I shake it off, but after the five-minute recovery time, I was still seeing double. It’s called diplopia—tissue damage in the eye that makes you see two of everything.

Cejudo described how his scratched retina made even simple movements nauseating, adding:

I just got back from the hospital. Hopefully, this thing goes away soon, because right now, it sucks, man. Seeing double makes you dizzy, and I’m just trying to get back to normal.

Despite joking about the injury in interviews, Cejudo admitted the long-term effects could be serious, and he will need to consult specialists before determining his next steps.Could This Be Career-Threatening?juries in MMA are rare but can be career-altering. Former UFC champion Michael Bisping famously lost vision in one eye due to repeated eye trauma, and Cejudo referenced Bisping’s experience as a cautionary tale:

Bisping came up to me backstage and told me, ‘People think this is a joke, but I lost my eye because of something like this.’ That hit me hard.

While Cejudo remains hopeful for a full recovery, the unpredictability of eye injuries means his fighting career is in jeopardy. Fighters suffering from severe retina damage often struggle with depth perception, reaction time, and overall vision—key components in combat sports.

What’s Next for Cejudo?

Cejudo will meet with eye specialists in the coming days to determine the severity of the injury. The UFC, meanwhile, has shut down talks of an immediate rematch, leaving Cejudo’s path forward unclear.

For now, his health remains the top priority, and whether or not he fights again, this brutal eye injury serves as a reminder of the real dangers MMA fighters face every time they step into the octagon.
