Caio Borralho has landed in Paris ahead of his highly anticipated clash at UFC Paris with Nassourdine Imavov. The Brazilian middleweight has chosen to sharpen his skills at MMA Factory.

MMA Factory, under Fernand Lopez, gave Imavov his foundation, and Borralho knows the psychological impact of taking over that space. He’s a cerebral fighter as co-founder of Fighting Nerds, he thrives on turning data and analysis into advantage, so stepping into an environment once associated with Imavov sends a message he respects the history but isn’t intimidated by it. In essence, he’s not just preparing physically; he’s claiming the narrative before the fight even begins.

For Imavov, the MMA Factory is more than just a gym, it’s where his MMA journey truly began. Under the guidance of Fernand Lopez, a coach whose stable once included Francis Ngannou and Ciryl Gane, Imavov sharpened his fundamentals and developed the composure that now defines his style. Training alongside world-class heavyweights allowed him to test himself daily, and those early years laid the groundwork for his UFC ascent.

Yet despite the success, cracks began to show. By late 2023, Nassourdine Imavov felt that his progress had stalled, and with ambitions of reaching championship gold, he knew a change was necessary.

A Shift Driven by Growth

That change came when Imavov departed MMA Factory to join the Venum Training Camp gym under the famous French MMA coach Nicolas Ott. The decision surprised many, but for Imavov it was a calculated move. Dissatisfied with what he perceived as a plateau in his development, he embraced Nicolas Ott’s more personalised coaching style.

Nicolas Ott, once a protégé of Lopez himself, built his reputation on striking knowledge, a meticulous focus on nutrition, and what fighters have come to call the “Ott Method.” This philosophy emphasises trust, individualised training, and a closer coach-athlete bond, an approach that resonated with Imavov.

“Every fighter needs to feel like the system is built for him, not the other way around,” Ott explained in past interviews, underscoring why Imavov saw him as the right mentor for the next chapter.

Results Speak Louder Than Words

The results since the move have been undeniable. Imavov is riding a four-fight winning streak against ranked opponents, with victories over Roman Dolidze, Jared Cannonier, and Brendan Allen. His most emphatic statement came when he stopped former champion Israel Adesanya with a brutal TKO, catapulting him to the top of the middleweight rankings.

Now holding the #1 contender spot, Imavov has transformed from a promising prospect into a legitimate title threat, validating his decision to leave MMA Factory.

Paris Showdown

For UFC Paris, Imavov insisted on a headlining clash with Caio Borralho. After fighting four major opponents in just eleven months, he saw Borralho, an undefeated Brazilian rising star ranked seventh in the division as the logical next step.

Caio Borralho, co-founder of the “Fighting Nerds,” has built a spotless 7-0 UFC record, earning respect with a methodical style that mixes pressure and ground control. For him, this fight represents a breakthrough opportunity on enemy soil.

Imavov, however, has been blunt in his assessment. He dismissed Borralho’s skillset as unremarkable, vowing to “demolish” him whether the contest stays standing or goes to the mat. Earlier this year, Imavov even rejected the idea of serving as a UFC 319 backup, claiming Borralho should “wait his turn.”

Borralho has not taken those comments lightly. In return, he accused Imavov of ducking fights, calling him a “f***ing pussy” in an interview a war of words that only adds more fire to their Paris collision.

What’s at Stake in Paris

This fight is more than a showcase; it is a gateway to a title shot. If Imavov prevails, the path to middleweight gold becomes clearer than ever. A win in front of a home crowd would be both symbolic and strategic, cementing him as the rightful challenger for the UFC championship.

For Caio Borralho, defeating the #1 contender on such a grand stage could instantly elevate him into the title picture. His unbeaten UFC record would become impossible to ignore if he defeats Nassourdine Imavov in Paris.
