As UFC 322 approaches, all eyes are on Benoît Saint Denis and Beneil Dariush, two fighters at very different stages of their careers but united by a common goal: redemption and relevance. The French powerhouse Saint Denis will step into Madison Square Garden on November 15 aiming to break into the lightweight division’s top ten. Across from him stands Dariush, the veteran contender looking to reignite his title aspirations.

For Benoît Saint Denis, this fight represents more than a chance to climb the rankings. It’s another step toward solidifying his reputation as one of the UFC’s toughest competitors. Fresh off a dominant victory over Mauricio Ruffy at UFC Paris, the “God of War” has rediscovered his rhythm and confidence after a pair of tough losses earlier in his career. Saint Denis told RMC Sport:

My long-term goal remains the dream of every UFC fighter: to hold the belt, . You have to stay professional and focus on what made me love this sport — to prove that I am the best fighter in the world.

The BMF Belt: A Symbol of Warrior Spirit

While most fighters chase the undisputed lightweight crown, Saint Denis has his sights set on something equally intriguing the BMF (Baddest Motherf***er) title. Introduced as a tribute to the sport’s most fearless and aggressive fighters, the belt perfectly fits the Frenchman’s identity inside the Octagon.

Currently held by Max Holloway after his sensational knockout win over Justin Gaethje in April 2024, the BMF belt is more than a trophy it’s a statement of fighting spirit.

With the energy and excitement in this division, there’s also the BMF belt to go for,” Saint Denis said. It belongs to Max Holloway right now, and it’s a very worthwhile goal.

The idea isn’t new for Saint Denis. After defeating Matt Frevola in New York in 2023, he openly declared his interest in chasing the BMF title. Losses to Dustin Poirier and Renato Moicano briefly derailed that vision, but his resurgence this year has brought the dream back into focus.

Dream Matchups: Hooker, Gaethje, Oliveira

If Benoît Saint Denis defeats Dariush, a host of blockbuster fights could follow. He’s previously expressed interest in facing Dan Hooker, labeling it as a “BMF semi-final,” or even taking on Justin Gaethje, should the American miss out on a title shot.

“Me and Dan Hooker for a BMF semi-final that could be fun,” Saint Denis said after UFC Paris. Or Gaethje, if the UFC gives the title shot to Arman Tsarukyan instead. That could lead to a fight against Max Holloway.

With Hooker set to face Tsarukyan in Doha on November 22 and Gaethje’s future uncertain, Saint Denis could be in prime position to make his case with a win in New York. Even Charles Oliveira’s recent callout of Holloway adds another layer of intrigue to the division’s tangled web of possibilities.

Dariush: A Veteran on a Mission

While Saint Denis aims to climb, Beneil Dariush is determined to reclaim his spot among the lightweight elite. Once on an eight-fight win streak, Dariush was among the division’s most consistent performers — yet he never received a title shot. At 36, he knows this fight could define the closing stretch of his career.

“I’ve spent a lot of time on my craft and believe I’m the best in the world,” Dariush told MMA Junkie Radio. “I don’t feel like I’m going to slow down. I think things are going to turn around, and I’ll go on an even greater run than before.”

Known for his grappling and composure under pressure, Dariush faces a dangerous test against the relentless Saint Denis. The Frenchman’s high pace, powerful striking, and relentless pressure could expose any weaknesses in the veteran’s defense.

But Dariush isn’t short on confidence.

It’s going to be a tactical fight, he said. Whoever is more well-rounded will win. I just have to stay sharp offense, defense, and everything in between.

What’s at Stake

For Benoît Saint Denis, victory at UFC 322 could mean entry into the top ten and possibly a shot at a high-profile name like Hooker or Gaethje. For Dariush, it’s about proving that experience still matters and that he’s not done chasing gold.

In a division packed with killers like Islam Makhachev, Arman Tsarukyan, and Charles Oliveira, both men have plenty to fight for. Yet the BMF narrative gives this matchup an extra edge. If Saint Denis wins decisively, don’t be surprised if his next callout echoes through the MMA world, directed squarely at Max Holloway.
